Inside Sforza Castle: much more than a fortress
Sforza Castle is far more than a fortress to photograph from the outside. Its courtyards, former ducal rooms, civic museums and special routes reveal medieval and Renaissance Milan, the Sforza court, Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo’s final sculpture.
You can reach it from the B&B on foot through Via Solferino and Via Brera. Before setting out, decide what interests you most: the courtyards, museums, panoramic battlements and underground routes have different access arrangements.
Courtyards and ducal rooms
Entering through the Filarete Tower, you cross the Castle’s monumental open spaces. The former ducal rooms hold sculpture and evidence of medieval and Renaissance Milan. The Armoury displays European weapons from different periods.
Michelangelo’s Rondanini Pietà
The former Spanish Hospital houses the Rondanini Pietà, Michelangelo’s final major work. The unfinished sculpture preserves traces of the artist’s changes and can be viewed from several angles.
Civic collections
The Castle holds collections of furniture, wooden sculpture, musical instruments, decorative arts, paintings and archaeological material.
Choose your visit
For a shorter visit, concentrate on the Museum of Ancient Art and the Rondanini Pietà. If the Castle’s architecture is your priority, check the official information for the battlements and underground tours. Opening hours, prices, accessible rooms, restoration work and tours may change: always reconfirm them on the official website.
Walking from the B&B
From Via Solferino 56, walk towards Via Brera and continue towards Piazza Castello using live pedestrian navigation. The route naturally crosses Brera’s artistic district; roadworks and diversions may affect the suggested streets.
