From Duomo to Garibaldi
Begin with the Duomo, then continue towards Brera and Corso Garibaldi. Choose your cultural stops before opening the live walking directions, and leave time for any reserved visit.
A flexible walk through the historic centre
- Duomo and the Galleria. Begin in Piazza del Duomo, then cross Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II towards Piazza della Scala.
- La Scala and Brera. From Piazza della Scala, continue towards Via Brera. Choose whether to pause in the neighbourhood or plan a separate visit to the Pinacoteca.
- Corso Garibaldi. Continue through Brera towards Corso Garibaldi. You can finish with a neighbourhood walk or continue towards Porta Nuova.
This is a flexible sequence of stops, rather than a promised journey time or an accessibility guarantee. Check live pedestrian directions and the access arrangements of any venue you want to enter.

The Duomo: Plan the Visit You Actually Want
VISITABLE ON FOOT OR BY METRO. Milan's cathedral rewards more than a quick photograph from the square. Decide whether you want an exterior walk, an indoor cultural visit or another part of the monumental complex. Give the Duomo its own space in your day rather than squeezing a timed visit between trains and shopping.

Start with the square
From a safe place clear of the pedestrian flow, take in the facade as a whole before studying its details. Keep bags and phones close in busy areas and avoid blocking entrances. The square is an outdoor experience; it does not prove that a particular part of the complex is open. If your time is limited, a calm exterior visit is better than purchasing a ticket you cannot use comfortably.
Choose tickets carefully
Use the Duomo's official website to compare the current ticket options and read exactly what each includes. Cathedral, museum, rooftop or guided experiences should not be assumed to share one access arrangement. Check the entry time, route, bag rules and any security procedures. This guide does not promise rooftop access, a lift-only route or an available slot.
A cathedral remains a place of worship
Dress and behave respectfully, follow staff instructions and give priority to prayer and celebrations. The official calendar distinguishes visits from liturgical events and displays changes to the day's programme. Check it before travelling, not just when buying a ticket. If your chosen area is unavailable, keep the plan flexible rather than expecting staff to make an exception.
Make the route comfortable
Duomo metro station is on M1 and M3; consult ATM for service and step-free information. From Brera, a walk through the centre can include the Galleria, but allow separate time for any booked visit. For mobility or sensory needs, consult the venue directly about the specific route and assistance. Do not equate an available lift with an entirely step-free experience.
